MILFORD, PA — The Robert E. & Marie Orr Smith Foundation has created a $50,000 scholarship fund at Greater Pike Community Foundation dedicated to supporting first responders and their children in pursuing educational and career advancement opportunities.
Beginning in spring 2027, scholarships will be available annually to eligible first responders and children of first responders residing in Pike County, Pennsylvania; Sussex County, New Jersey; and Orange County, New York. The program will provide financial assistance for students pursuing college degrees, trade school certifications, vocational training, and continuing education.
The initiative recognizes the dedication, courage, and sacrifice of the men and women who serve their communities as first responders, while also investing in the educational futures of their families.
“Our first responders dedicate their lives to protecting and serving our communities,” said Bobby Orr, Trustee of the Robert E. & Marie Orr Smith Foundation. “This scholarship is an opportunity to give back to those who give so much, while helping them and their children achieve their educational and professional goals.”
In addition to this new scholarship fund at Greater Pike, the Robert E. & Marie Orr Smith Foundation also sponsors scholarships for students pursuing careers in nursing and law enforcement through Bergen Community College in New Jersey.
These educational initiatives reflect the Robert E. & Marie Orr Smith Foundation’s ongoing commitment to supporting public service, strengthening local communities, and creating meaningful opportunities for individuals entering essential professions.
Applications for the new first responder scholarship will be available through Greater Pike beginning in April 2027. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Greater Pike for application information, eligibility requirements, and scholarship deadlines.
This new scholarship is one of more than 50 funds at Greater Pike that support area nonprofits and local students. Gifts to Greater Pike’s endowment are invested to grow, building a permanent resource that will sustain Pike County and surrounding communities into the future.
