Hotel Fauchère Emergency Relief Fund for Puerto Rico and Mexico Raises Over $6,300

November 28, 2017

Pike County area residents opened their hearts and checkbooks to support disaster relief efforts following a hurricane in Puerto Rico and earthquake in Mexico earlier this fall. The Greater Pike Community Foundation’s Hotel Fauchère Emergency Relief Fund, established by Hotel Fauchère employees and management received donations exceeding $6300 in a little over one month.

The Emergency Fund was established as a pass-through fund of the Greater Pike Community Foundation with 100% of proceeds being donated to relief efforts in the affected areas.

“We are pleased to support Salud y Acupuntura para el Pueblo, a grass roots health care organization on the frontlines of relief efforts in Puerto Rico, and Global Giving Mexico Earthquake Relief Fund, to each receive half of the funds raised”, said Xavier Morales, the Hotel Fauchère’s maître d’hotel, and a native of Puerto Rico, who coordinated the company’s effort.

The funds were raised when Hotel Fauchère’s Executive Chef, Michael Glatz, who lived in Vieques, Puerto Rico, for many years, created an arroz con pollo special—both Puerto Rican-style and Mexican-style—and 100% of the entrée price was donated to the fund. The hotel’s front of house staff promoted the special to guests with a display of Mexican and Puerto Rican flags. In addition, donations were sent directly to Greater Pike by those who heard about the effort and wanted to help.

“I’m very proud of our entire team and grateful to our guests for supporting this effort,” said Sean Strub, the hotel’s owner who also serves on the board of directors of the Greater Pike Community Foundation. “At this time of year, when we reflect and give thanks for all our good fortune, it is appropriate to reach out and help those who have suffered such terrible disasters.”

Greater Pike Community Foundation was created to enable generous individuals, families and local businesses to maximize their charitable support through organized, targeted, long-term community philanthropy. The Foundation provides a permanent and personal way to give back to the region we love and have worked so hard to nurture and maintain.
