National Canoe Safety Patrol Establishes Fund to Honor Richard Rhodes

November 19, 2018

The National Canoe Safety Patrol (NCSP) has established a fund to honor Richard ‘Dick’ Rhodes, a Delaware River Basin river and safety steward. Rhodes, who passed away in 2012, was a founding member of the National Canoe Safety Patrol, volunteer with the National Park Service, and member of the Delaware River Sojourn steering committee.

Fund Established to Honor NYC Firefighter and 9/11 Responder Thomas K. Kontizas

October 10, 2018

A fund has been established to honor Thomas K. Kontizas, a New York City Firefighter for 22 years and 9/11 First Responder. Kontizas passed earlier this year after a courageous battle with AML, a type of leukemia disproportionately experienced by 9/11 First Responders.

Local Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship

September 26, 2018

Through a partnership with The Dime Bank and the PA Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), the Greater Pike Community Foundation has awarded its first Pre-Kindergarten Scholarship for tuition assistance to the Culleny family of Milford for their son Tristan to attend the pre-K program at the Center for Developmental Disabilities (CDD) in Milford, PA.

5th Annual Dinner Sells Out

Our 5th Annual Dinner Celebration has sold the maximum number of tickets available less than three weeks after invitations were mailed.

Greater Pike Community Foundation (Greater Pike) Board Members Lara Anne Dodsworth and Tim Smith, the co-Chairs of the Dinner Committee, are just two of 17 volunteer board members, who have supported this year’s 5th Annual Dinner Celebration.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Greater Pike Community Foundation, which manages these and other scholarship funds.

Greater Pike and The Dime Bank Provide Pre-K Scholarships

The Greater Pike Community Foundation has received funding from The Dime Bank to offer its first Pre-K Scholarship opportunity. The Scholarships will be based on financial need and will provide partial tuition to one or more families in the Greater Pike area with a preschool age child to attend a pre-K program at either the Center for Developmental Disabilities (CDD) or Green Trees Early Learning Center, Inc., in the fall of 2018..

Emergency Funds for Local Food Pantry

January 5, 2018

The Ecumenical Food Pantry of Pike County serves over 500 families struggling to buy groceries in our community. As is often the case after the holidays, however, the Pantry is finding itself struggling to satisfy the many requests for food during these cold months. Learning of this dilemma, the Greater Pike Community Foundation approved an emergency funding request for $1,000 to help make-up the shortfall.
