National Canoe Safety Patrol Establishes Fund to Honor Richard Rhodes
November 19, 2018
The National Canoe Safety Patrol (NCSP) has established a fund to honor Richard ‘Dick’ Rhodes, a Delaware River Basin river and safety steward. Rhodes, who passed away in 2012, was a founding member of the National Canoe Safety Patrol, volunteer with the National Park Service, and member of the Delaware River Sojourn steering committee.
“He will be forever missed, but never forgotten.” said NCSP’s Jim Schulte. “The ‘RRRR’ fund will continue to grow and support an organization that Dick deeply cared about and will be a fitting legacy for such a steward of our great river.”
“For paddling or tubing enthusiasts, sportsmen, hikers, bikers, eagle watchers and nature lovers of all kinds, the Delaware River is a lifeline to our community and its economy,” said Jenni Hamill, Executive Director of Greater Pike. “Although majestic and beautiful, the Delaware can also be dangerous at times. The NCSP performs a vital role as river stewards, making the river and its banks a safer and more enjoyable place to enjoy the unique qualities the Greater Pike area has offer.”
NCSP, a non-profit volunteer organization, provides river rescue and safety operations on the Delaware River. The Richard Rhodes River Rescue Fund will support the recruitment, training and retention of new NCSP volunteers by providing assistance to obtain equipment required to perform river patrols and rescues.
