Barbara J. Buchanan Grants Awarded
May 1, 2019
Pike County lost a beloved philanthropist last year, but her legacy lives on.
The Barbara J. Buchanan Fund of the Greater Pike Community Foundation announces its 2019 Grant Recipients: Pike County Hands of Hope, Kindred Spirits, and GAIT Therapeutic Riding Center. All three organizations will receive a $500 grant.
Since its inception in 2014, the Barbara J. Buchanan Fund has awarded at least 25 grants to community organizations. Due to Buchanan’s passing recently, these awards held particular importance.
“The Grants Committee received a number of quality grant applications this year,” said Maryanne Monte, Greater Pike Community Foundation’s Grants Chair. “We decided to select these three applicants specifically because we felt that their organizations represented causes and organizations that were near and dear to Barbara’s heart and reflected her passion for local philanthropy. It is one way to keep Barbara’s memory alive.”
Buchanan was an early member of the Greater Pike Board and was the honoree of the Foundation’s first annual gala that has honored local philanthropic leadership every year since. Her guidance and support of the Foundation were critical to its early success.
Greater Pike Community Foundation enables generous individuals, families and local businesses to maximize their charitable support through organized, targeted, long-term community philanthropy.
