County Waste Donates to Kyle James Pascoe Memorial Scholarship Fund
August 5, 2019
Earlier this year, Sharon Marks-Pascoe, the mother of Kyle Pascoe, a DV junior who died following a serious traffic accident last fall, launched a memorial scholarship fund at Greater Pike Community Foundation to honor her son. She sent a solicitation to local businesses and companies with whom she did business to raise the funds necessary to award an annual scholarship.
When she received a FedEx delivery a few days later, she was shocked to receive a check for $25,000 from County Waste, the firm that picks up garbage and recycling from her family’s home.
“I couldn’t believe it at first,” said Marks-Pascoe, “I had to count the zeros to make sure I was reading it correctly”.
With the help of County Waste and other generous businesses and individuals who provided support to a fundraising tournament for the fund, the Kyle James Pascoe Memorial Scholarship Fund has raised enough funds to award scholarships to local DV seniors every year, in perpetuity.
The initial scholarships will be awarded next year, in 2020, the year in which Kyle would have graduated. To kick it off, Marks-Pascoe plans to award two scholarships to graduating DV students: one for academic excellence and the other for excelling in sports. While a student at DV, her son Kyle distinguished himself both in the classroom and on the field.
“I’d like to thank County Waste and all of the other generous people who donated and participated in my first annual fundraiser,” said Marks-Pascoe. “I was determined to accomplish my goal of raising enough money to open this scholarship to honor Kyle’s memory forever and I did it. He would be proud.”
Donations can still be made through Greater Pike to the Kyle James Pascoe Memorial Scholarship fund. Checks should be made payable to: GPCF-Kyle James Pascoe Memorial Fund and mailed to Greater Pike Community Foundation, P.O. Box 992, Milford, PA 18337.
