Milford Covid Relief Fund Helps Nonprofits Weather the Pandemic

August 17, 2020

Thousands more dollars in grants have been awarded to qualified nonprofit and government organizations from the Milford Covid Relief Fund, (MCRF) administered by Greater Pike Community Foundation. The grants will help offset the decline in donations, memberships, and fundraising resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. In the latest round, $7,000 dollars in grants were equally distributed to Pike County Historical Society, Pike County Library, Pike County Humane Society, Milford Shade Tree Commission, Milford Fire Department, Milford Garden Club, and the Delaware Valley Youth Sports League.

League President John Corrie said the grant will help 300 kids from ages 3 to 12 continue playing softball and baseball. He added, with donations down during the pandemic, help is crucial. “It’s super important. We’re at a stage where every dollar counts,” Corrie explained.  “We really appreciate what the Foundation did and will put it to good use.”

“The grant will help sustain us,” said Milford Garden Club Executive Director Liz Steen. She said fundraising letters were not sent out due to the pandemic, and the annual Secret Garden Tour was canceled as were face-to-face meetings. “Our raffles at those meetings raise money that goes into our scholarship fund,” she said. Steen added that the grant will help online activities and, of course, the Garden Club will be able to continue decorating the urns in town, among other planned activities.

The Milford Covid Relief Fund was created in March to assist individuals, businesses, and nonprofits in and near Milford Borough that have been adversely affected by the pandemic. Through the generosity of donors, more than $50,000 has been raised and more than a dozen organizations have received grants so far.
