MILFORD, PA – A longstanding community supporter and a philanthropic business team have been named the 2022 Greater Pike Community Foundation honorees and will be honored at Greater Pike’s 7th Annual Dinner on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2022.

“We are celebrating our 10-year anniversary and Greater Pike is working hard to move philanthropy forward into our next decade. We are grateful for the continued support of the greater Pike County region and outstanding community members such as those selected to be our 2022 honorees,” said Gail Shuttleworth, Greater Pike Board Chair.

The 2022 Barbara J. Buchanan Community Service Award will be awarded to Bill Kiger, an individual who exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism and giving back to our community. Many  in the community recognize Bill from his Sunday morning sidewalk sweepings (for which Bill Kiger Clean-Up Day was established), but this award also will call attention to some of his other volunteer efforts, including:

  • Founding member of the Milford Enhancement Committee (current Board member)
  • Founding member of the Historic Preservation Trust (current Board President)
  • Former Board Chair of the Pike County Historical Society
  • Former Borough Councilman
  • Worked with Park Service to establish Pike County Trail System
  • Led the restoration of the Marie Zimmerman House

He also served as a Borough Councilman and currently is spearheading efforts to save the historic Cliff Park Inn.

Arlene Quirk and Shaun Burger of Keller Williams Real Estate will receive the Richard L. Snyder Business Leadership Award, which recognizes a local business that has demonstrated outstanding corporate philanthropic leadership in our community.

“Arlene and Shaun were chosen for their consistent and generous support of the community and for their creative initiative of aligning a portion of their real estate proceeds with charitable causes in the community,” said Jenni Hamill, Greater Pike Executive Director.

For the past few years, the Arlene Quirk team has contributed to a variety of local causes, including Greater Pike’s Art Ridley Spirit of Kindness Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is designed to support one or more annual scholarships to graduating Delaware Valley seniors who embody a spirit of giving in their community and have exhibited acts of kindness to those in need.

Since 1999, they’ve chosen “timely causes” to receive the funds, such as the Ecumenical Food Pantry when it was evident that food insecurity was such a large issue during the Covid pandemic and the American Cancer Society, since the team has each had personal experiences with cancer.

Two $1,000 grants will be awarded to the honorees, which will be donated to a charity of their choice.

While details for the October 6 dinner are still being worked out, those interested in sponsorships and support should contact Greater Pike at info@greaterpike.org or call 570-832-4686.
