Greater Pike Makes Donations to Four Food Pantries
November 11, 2024
MILFORD, PA – In the run-up to the holidays, Greater Pike Community Foundation has awarded four area food banks $1,000 each to assist in their efforts to fight food insecurity in our community. Grants went to the Ecumenical Food Pantry of Pike County in Milford, the Good Cheer Food Pantry in Greeley, the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Food Pantry in Dingmans Ferry, and Saint Ann’s Food Pantry in Shohola.
The funds come at a critical time for these food pantries, given the advent of colder weather and the approach of the winter holidays. Area food banks have reported a steady increase in the number of families seeking assistance.
“This donation, along with others, will help us provide 120 of Pike County’s most vulnerable families with food for the Thanksgiving holiday,” said Barbara Hupfer, food pantry director at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. “We are grateful for the continued support of Greater Pike.”
Likewise, for Saint Ann’s Food Pantry, “This support comes at the perfect time, as we prepare to serve our community during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season,” said Carol Laput, representing the food bank. “With so many families in need, this gift ensures we can provide all the fixings to bring joy to their holiday tables. It’s a powerful example of how we can work together to meet the needs of our community.”
In addition to the four grants, Greater Pike is also participating in an ongoing food drive that’s being coordinated by the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau, and Pike County Economic Development Agency. The four organizations are tenants at the Milford Community House, where the food donations are being collected. Shelf-stable, unexpired foods such as juice, pasta, sauce, cereal, beans, and canned fruits and vegetables should be dropped off by November 22. The Community House is located at 201 Broad St., at the intersection with Harford Street.
“Our area food pantries serve a critical need all year long, but especially at this time of year,” said Rick Little, Greater Pike’s Executive Director. “We encourage everyone to join us in supporting them by donating funds, food items, or both.”
Greater Pike offers individuals, families, and local businesses an opportunity to provide a permanent and personal way to give back to the community.
