Pre-K Scholarships Available from Greater Pike
April 27, 2020
Greater Pike Community Foundation is offering Pre-K scholarships again this year, thanks to a $15,000 donation from Highmark Life Insurance Company, made possible through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit program. 2020 Pre-K scholarships will provide full or partial tuition for local children attending summer or school-year programs at the Center for Developmental Disabilities (CDD), Green Trees Early Learning Center, or The Ann Street School.
Jenni Hamill, Greater Pike Executive Director, noted the significance of these scholarships especially now. “For families who have suffered wage and job losses due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this will be of enormous relief,” she said. “Families will be able to plan to return to work knowing in advance the scholarship money was secured.” Hamill also noted, “Essential workers who need child care may qualify for a scholarship immediately.”
“All Highmark companies share a deep commitment to improving the health and wellness of the communities where we do business,” said Evan Frazier, Senior Vice President, Highmark Health. “Education is a vital component of a strong, healthy community. By continuing to participate in Pennsylvania’s EITC and OSTC programs, Highmark companies are funding educational organizations that are creating innovative programs that will positively impact the lives of children across the region.
Applicants must reside in Pennsylvania and have children between the ages of three and six attending an approved Pre-K program. Household income must be less than $90,000 annually, plus $15,842 for each dependent. Applications are available at participating schools, on Greater Pike Community Foundation’s website (www.greaterpike.org) or by emailing Gail Shuttleworth, Scholarship Chair at scholarships@greaterpike.org. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Greater Pike Community Foundation enables generous individuals, families, and local businesses to maximize their charitable support through organized, targeted, long-term community philanthropy.
