Richard L. Snyder Grant
Richard “Dick” Snyder was among Pike County’s greatest supporters. His community leadership, vision, and contributions were exceptional. Active in a number of conservation, cultural, historic preservation, and civic organizations, Dick was a founding board member of Greater Pike Community Foundation and the endowment he left is a lasting legacy for the community and causes he loved.
Dick was a self-made successful businessman and entrepreneur. Born in Carlisle, PA and raised on a dairy farm, he attended a one-room schoolhouse before graduating from Big Spring High School in 1957. He received his Bachelor of Science degree, magna cum laude, from Penn State University in 1961. A certified public accountant, he served in various executive management positions until 1991 when he retired from Philip Morris International, where he was executive vice president, Europe-Middle East-Africa. After his retirement, he maintained his New York City apartment but lived primarily in Milford, PA, at his Foster Hill farm.
Perhaps one of Dick’s most significant community endeavors began in 1997 when he founded and chaired the Milford Enhancement Committee (MEC), whose goal is to make Milford a better place to live, visit, and do business. Since its inception, the MEC has raised and invested more than $9 million to improve Milford’s streetscapes and public spaces to make them safer, more attractive and more pedestrian friendly.
